Affordable Normal Lenses

Standard Lenses

These standard, or normal lenses are designed for general purpose applications such as product, portrait, landscape and some architectural photography. As a general rule, a normal focal length lens is often equal to the diagonal dimension of the film format being used (e.g. 4x5 film has a 161mm, or 6 1/2"/16.5cm diagonal). But, selecting the best focal length for your particular needs is primarily dependent upon the application for which the lens is used (e.g. a 210mm, or 8 1/2"/21.5cm lens is considered a normal focal length for a 4x5 studio view camera, whereas a 135mm, or 5 1/2"/14cm lens might be considered a normal focal length by a landscape photographer). This page includes quality affordable standard lenses for both beginners to large format photography as well as and pros.
