Canon Speedlite 580EX
Flash for Canon EOS SLR Cameras
Combining the
strengths of its predecessor 550EX while providing additional
functions at higher speeds, the Speedlite 580EX is Canon’s new
flagship flash unit featuring a higher maximum guide number, shorter
recycle time, autozoom control for image sensor size, and design
improvements for easier handling by digital SLR users ranging from
professional to advanced amateur.
Increased maximum guide number
With a maximum guide number of 58 (105mm, ISO 100 in meters),
Speedlite 580EX improves on the 550EX maximum of 55 to optimize
flash output and power. The improved design of the flash head is
another reason for increased flash output.
Shorter recycle time for
capturing best shutter chance
Thanks to modifications to the battery contacts and recharging
circuit, the recycle time of the Speedlite 580EX has been made 25%
shorter than available with the 550EX.
Styling and functionality to
match the latest line
Reducing width by 4mm and weight by 30g, the Speedlite 580EX matches
sophistication with handling ease. The flash head’s built-in wide
panel expands flash coverage to suit wide-angle shots of 14mm angle
of view. A catchlight panel generates a weakened light toward the
subject for lively portraits when extended and the wide panel
retracted.
Function advantages especially
designed for digital SLRs
When the Speedlite 580EX receives image size data from a supported
EOS digital camera, the flash head automatically zooms to match the
effective angle of view. The resulting flash coverage is more
accurate. When color temperature data is automatically transmitted
from the Speedlite 580EX to a camera, the camera sets the color
balance for the optimal flash shot.
Stress-free function selection
through redesigned dial
The newly adopted Select dial simplifies the main operation
interface from holding down the + or – button to turning the dial.
Among other advantages, the new layout adds a high-speed synch
button, centers the SEL/SET button, and relocates wireless functions
to the zoom button.
Retained and upgraded functions
for greater versatility
Flash exposure control system, wireless flash control with multiple
Speedlites, and even distribution of light over the zoom range are
retained. One new function is the expanded range of the AF-assist
beam, compatible with all EOS AF cameras, including the EOS 20D.
Left-right 180° bounce, one-touch bounce lock release, and improved
controllability for greater exposure stability are among the
upgraded functions.

Canon Speedlite 420EX
Flash for Canon EOS SLR Cameras
Though TTL
compatible with all Canon EOS cameras and the manual-focus T90 SLR,
the Canon Speedlite 420EX flash is also E-TTL compatible with all
A-type bodies: EOS-1v, EOS-3, Elan 7 / 7E, Elan II/IIE, Rebel 2000,
Rebel G, and EOS IX and IX Lite. The E-TTL function gives you
features like high-speed FP sync mode and FE lock (spot/partial
flash metering). The swivel head of the 420EX lets you bounce the
light off the surrounding surfaces, giving your images soft,
professional-quality lighting.
This flash also works as a wireless
"slave" flash with EOS-1v, EOS-3, Elan 7 / 7E, and D30 bodies. The
remote flash firing is controlled entirely by a master unit--such as
the Speedlite Transmitter ST-E2, Speedlite 550EX, or Macro Ring Lite
MR-14EX--connected to the camera, making it fast and simple to set
up. When used with the EOS-1V, EOS-3, or EOS D30 cameras, additional
features such as lighting ratio control and modeling flash are also
supported by the 420EX. |

Canon Speedlite 430EX
Flash for Various EOS and Powershot Cameras
|
The
Speedlite 430EX flash unit replaces the popular Speedlite
420EX. The Speedlite 430EX improves on many specifications
of its predecessor and includes new features to maximize
digital image quality when using a flash. These include
automatic selection of camera white-balance settings and
auto-adjustment of the zoom flash position to match the
sensor size of the camera to which the unit is attached. The
Speedlite 430EX has increased its guide number to 43 (m/ISO
100 at 105mm) and has approximately 40% faster recycling
time than the Speedlite 420EX.
An ultra-bright, two-LED
configuration focus assist-beam has been designed to be
compatible with all focus points within the frame of all EOS
AF systems, up to 9-point AF.
Optimum flash coverage
The flash head zoom covers the range 24mm to 105mm and an
integrated diffusion panel allows extended wide-angle
coverage to 14mm. When attached to digital EOS cameras with
smaller than full-frame sensors (such as the EOS-1D Mark II
N and EOS 20D) the Speedlite 430EX gives a more accurate
flash coverage by detecting the model to which it is
attached and automatically narrowing the angle of coverage.
This has the effect of eliminating light loss in peripheral
areas and extending the effective flash range.
Ideal white balance
The Speedlite 430EX automatically transfers color
temperature information to recent models of digital SLR
cameras . The camera then sets the white balance optimally
for the flash shot. This feature works when the camera's
white balance mode is set to Auto White Balance (AWB) or
Flash white balance mode.
E-TTL II
The Speedlite 430EX is fully compatible with the distance
linked E-TTL II system found on recent EOS cameras, and
supports other EOS cameras that do not support E-TTL II,
when required. For a complete multiple flash system, the
Speedlite 430EX serves as a wireless slave when either the
Speedlite 580EX, Macro Ring Lite MR-14EX, Macro Twin Lite
MT-24EX, or Speedlite Transmitter ST-E2 is used as a master.
Upgrade for control
An intuitive and ergonomic interface includes an LCD panel
for clear indication of modes and settings. A single bounce
lock release button provides immediate control over the
bounce head angle for flexible positioning of the flash
head. The flash head can be moved up from 0 to 90 degrees (5
settings), left from 0 to 180 degrees (7 settings), and
right from 0 to 90 degrees (4 settings). Six custom
functions allow customization of the flash operations.
Despite high power and short recycling times, the unit is
small and lightweight.
Fully synchronized
Features include 1st and 2nd curtain flash synchronization,
plus manual adjustment of flash output from full to 1/64
power (7 levels).
Accessories
An optional Speedlite Bracket SB-E1 (not included--must be
purchased separately) allows the flash unit to be mounted to
one side of the camera. Designed specifically for press and
wedding photographers, it eliminates the red-eye that can
occur when mounting a flash on the axis of the lens, such as
on the camera hot shoe. Flash batteries are replaceable
without removing the unit from the bracket.

Canon Speedlite 220EX
EOS Cameras
Featuring a recycle time of 0.1 to 4.5 seconds, the Canon Speedlite
220EX is a fully automatic flash, compatible with all Canon EOS
cameras. The 220EX can also utilize E-TTL operation when paired with
the Canon EOS IX, EOS ELAN II/IIE, and EOS Rebel G. Sporting a
save-energy feature, whereby the flash is shut down after 90 seconds
of idle, the 220EX is powered by four AA batteries, and has a flash
capacity between 250 and 1,700. The convenience and ease of use
ensure the 220EX a place in the hands of amateur photographers who
want a high-quality flash, but aren't interested in learning to use
the professional features of Canon's other offerings.
