Large format Accessories

There are a lot of accessories that you should consider for your large format camera. Polaroid backs give instant images which allow you to evaluate composition and exposure before you load your sheet films. They are placed behind the ground glass just like a film holder. Polaroid backs can save you money in wasting sheet films. Readyloads and quick loads are used with Polaroid backs and are much faster to load films than regular filmholder. You use them as you would a sheet of Polaroid. They are easier to carry but cost a little more than regular sheet films.

Reflex hoods show right-side-up but still reversed. They make viewing much easier but they cost as much as some lower budget view cameras. Folding hoods ( picture above) are great for viewing and replace the dark cloth and also protect the groundglass. Changing bags are some of the cheapest accessories you can buy. They let you load films in daylight and on location. A 4X loupe will provide enough magnification for focusing. Some brands are expensive but provide a sharper view. You can buy an inexpensive loupe for around $30 with good quality. You need a light meter for calculating exposure. Reflected light meters cost less than a hundred dollars. They measure the light reflected by the subject, and are good for most situations. Incident light meters let you calculate exposure by the amount of light falling on your subject for more accurate reading. These types of meters are more expensive but you can also purchase optional reflected or spot attachments to use with them.
