Product Description

The Konica Minolta Maxxum 5D is a high-performance interchangeable-lens digital SLR camera that inherits the revolutionary technology of its predecessor, the Konica Minolta Maxxum 7D. The camera features a body-integral CCD-shift Anti-Shake Technology that reduces blur caused by camera shake and supports all Maxxum AF lenses including the upcoming line of "DT" Lenses. Its 6.1-megapixel CCD captures enough detail for photo-quality 14-by-19-inch enlargements, and Konica Minolta's original image processing technology CxProcess III renders images in sharp detail. The camera's large, 2.5-inch color LCD monitor provides clear image viewing and data display, and it provides comprehensive image adjustment and control options for creative applications.

Built-in Anti-Shake Performance with All Maxxum System Lenses
The Maxxum 5D inherits the revolutionary technology of the Maxxum 7D--the world's first digital SLR with built-in Anti-Shake Technology and CCD Shift mechanism that is compatible with all Maxxum system lenses, including Konica Minolta's soon to be introduced line of Digital Technology "DT" lenses.

This award winning Anti-shake technology was selected as "European Photo Innovation of the Year 2004--2005" by EISA and provides the equivalent compensation effect with a shutter speed 2 to 3 stops slower.

Konica Minolta's Anti-Shake Technology makes it possible to reduce blur caused by camera shake, even when taking photos in dimly lit or twilight scenes, in natural light with a telephoto lens, as well as macro shots--without relying on a higher ISO setting or the aid of a flash or tripod. Anti-Shake responds quickly to both broad, slow-swaying motion of the camera body and the higher frequency shaking typical of camera shake caused by the photographer's hands.

The Anti-shake Technology can be switched on or off via a dedicated switch on the camera's back, and an Anti-Shake indicator is displayed on the viewfinder to keep the user informed when it's active.

Large CCD and Advanced Image Processing Technology
Integrating Konica Minolta's advanced technologies for photo-imaging excellence, the Maxxum 5D boasts an advanced LSI (image processing engine) and CxProcess III technology designed to provide stunning, natural-looking images.

As Konica Minolta's original image processing technology, CxProcess III optimizes four essential elements:

  • Sharpness to take full advantage of the advanced optical technologies incorporated into the lens, presenting rich detail and realism without losing the quality of defocused images,
  • Color reproduction to ensure that colors are rendered just as the human eye perceives them such as the subtle hues of natural blue, red, and skin tones,
  • Gradation reproduction to render both clearness and deep presentation of gradations for both shadows and highlights, and
  • Noise reduction to achieve a natural, impressive presentation of textured images.
Big, Bright 2.5-inch LCD with Navigation Display
Providing a better view for better photos, the Maxxum 5D incorporates a large, 2.5-inch LCD monitor that also works as a Navigation Display for camera settings. For even greater convenience, the display automatically switches from horizontal to vertical format when shooting in upright "portrait" format and lets users adjust the size of the on-screen text.

Comprehensive Image Adjustment and Control for Creative Photography

Digital Subject Program Selector
The Digital Subject Program Selector offers photographers five convenient options: portrait, sports, landscape, evening sunset view, and night view. Using the exposure mode dial, users simply select an appropriate option for their chosen scene, and the new Maxxum 5D automatically selects an appropriate exposure control, AF mode, and image-processing program. This function makes it quick and easy for anyone to take beautiful shots without the need for complicated settings.

Digital Effect Control
Adding a step of creative flexibility above the Digital Subject Program Selector, the Digital Effect Control lets users select an option among ten scene types, edit the parameters to their preferences, and then store the settings. Once a scene is selected, the Konica Minolta Maxxum 5D automatically sets appropriate image processing and image quality parameters. The exposure can then be manually selected so photographers can customize the contrast and sharpness saturation parameters within five steps from the default values to create the exact look they want.

Color Temperature Setting
In addition to AWB (auto white balance), PWB (preset white balance), custom white balance and color temperature settings, the Maxxum 5D offers added creative freedom with CC (Color Compensation) filter effects and Color Temperature fine-tuning in 100K increments. And, the camera's G9 (Green) to M9 (Magenta) range enables precise white balance adjustments for difficult lighting situations.

White-Balance Bracketing
Offering a new level of convenience and efficiency, this function lets photographers take a shot in differing color temperature settings with two options for their desired color temperature range. Based on the range, the Maxxum 5D records three frames per shutter sequence so users can manually select their favorite frame after the shot.

Zone Matching
An inherited feature of the acclaimed Konica Minolta Maxxum 7D, high-key and low-key tone capture extend CCD dynamic range and adjust tone curves to ensure precise reproduction of gradations and suppress noise in low-lighting shots. For example, using high-key mode to take wedding photos under direct sunlight, the fine details of a bride's white flowers, gown, and train can be reproduced accurately. In comparison, using low-key mode, the texture of a black dress in a dark room can be captured in detail without noise interference.

Easy and Intuitive Operation

High-performance, high-speed autofocus (AF)
The Maxxum 5D's high-performance AF system offers exceptional accuracy with a central, cross hair type, 9-point and 8 line AF sensor array that enables high-precision Predictive Focus Control as well as high-speed Subject Tracking for accurately focusing on moving subjects--an indispensable asset in action and sports photography.

Smooth, Responsive Continuous Shooting
The Maxxum 5D lets users capture up to 10 frames at a speed of approximately 3 frames per second (in Large/Fine JPEG mode). The camera's high recording speed enables users to continue shooting smoothly afterwards.

User-friendly dials and controls
The Maxxum 5D offers a simple, user-friendly configuration of dials and controls that even beginner SLR camera users will quickly feel familiar with. Added functions provide users who are moving up from more basic models with intuitive control; for example, the exposure mode dial also operates the five options of the Digital Subject Program Selector, and an independent lever ensures quick and easy white balance control. Electronic menus display adjustable parameters to meet the demands of advanced photographers, and a menu call button simplifies menu navigation. Enhancing ease of use further still, operating procedures that use common keys have been standardized across functions/screens so that users can navigate intuitively without having to refer the instructions.

High-performance viewfinder
A bright, clear optical viewfinder displays essential shooting parameters at the bottom of the frame, providing users with all the information they need to make creative adjustments quickly. It also incorporates a spherical acute matte focusing screen for accurate, bright critical focusing assessment. And, to accommodate the camera's smaller design, the Maxxum 5D employs a newly developed forward-bend finder optical system and roof-mirror type of pentaprism.

Durable, Compact Body and High-Quality Texture
The Maxxum 5D enhances camera reliability through its strong build quality. The body is constructed using sturdy glass fiber plastic, making it lighter and smaller than the Maxxum 7D by about 22% in volume, while a functional rubber grip based on new ergonomic design research provides an ideal hand fit.

The Maxxum 7D is the world's first digital SLR camera with body-integral antishake technology and a CCD-shift mechanism, bringing an exciting new level of performance to Maxxum AF SLR lenses--including macro, wide-angle, zoom, telephoto, and super telephoto.  Without relying on a higher ISO setting or the aid of a flash or tripod, this new technology reduces unintentional blurring caused by shaking when taking photos with slow shutter speeds in dim light or twilight, in natural light with a telephoto lens, and with macro shots. It instantly and precisely shifts the CCD to compensate for camera motion, responding quickly to shaking caused by the photographer's hands and to broad, slow-swaying motions of the camera body. The 2.5-inch LCD monitor's large screen and ultrafine 207,000-pixel resolution make it easy to check image details after shooting. Capable of simultaneous image and histogram display, the monitor can also be set to display images with overexposed and underexposed areas highlighted for quick identification. In addition, automatic focus-point detection with 10x enlargement makes it easy to check for correct focus, and you can simultaneously display all of the frames in an auto-exposure-bracketing series to facilitate "best shot" selection.

Konica Minolta's exclusive CxProcess III technology brings out the best from the Maxxum 7D's 6.1-million-effective-pixel APS-C size CCD. CxProcess III optimizes color saturation, edge sharpness, and highlight/shadow contrast to ensure that colors are rendered true to life. CxProcess III also suppresses noise during slow-shutter imaging, and assures rich textural detail and spatial perspective for vivid yet natural reproduction of skin tones, clouds, and other subjects with delicate surface textures.
The Maxxum 7D incorporates a central, crosshair-type, nine-point and eight-line AF sensor array, providing high-precision autofocusing and high-performance tracking of moving subjects. This wide-area coverage gives you great creative flexibility in framing your subject. The AF system features both predictive focus control and omnidimensional subject tracking for high-speed focus adjustment, making it ideal for photographing fleeting moments or sports.

Four focusing modes ensure optimum performance in a wide range of situations: AF-S for single-shot AF, AF-C for continuous AF, and AF-A, which automatically switches from single-shot to continuous AF when it detects subject movement. In addition, the Maxxum 7D features the same AF/MF control layout featured on the Maxxum 7. Another focusing option that is particularly useful for macro and portrait photography is direct manual focus, which combines the advantages of AF operation with the ability to focus manually when the shutter button is pressed halfway down.
A spherical acute matte focusing screen is used for accurate and bright critical focusing assessment. The optical glass pentaprism viewfinder features 0.9x magnification and 95% field-of-view for easy scene evaluation and composition, even when using small-aperture telephoto lenses.

The LCD monitor also works as a navigation display, enabling seamless operation with clear, concise camera settings displayed alongside comprehensive shooting information in large, easy-to-read text. The display automatically switches from horizontal to vertical format when your camera position changes and switches off as you look into the viewfinder.
The Maxxum 7D inherits its dial-and-lever operation system from the world-renowned Maxxum 7, a 35mm AF SLR highly regarded for its user-friendliness. The Maxxum 7D's intuitive operation makes it ideal for users moving up to the new, digital model from its 35mm predecessor. The exposure compensation dial and easy-to-use exposure mode dials are also borrowed from the Maxxum 7, making the 7D comfortably familiar and helping users respond quickly to changing shooting conditions or picture opportunities. A separate white-balance dial is provided for quick, easy white-balance control.
The Maxxum 7D enables high-speed continuous shooting of up to nine consecutive frames at up to three frames per second in both RAW and RAW+JPEG modes. It also allows continuous shooting of up to twelve 3,008 x 2,000 JPEG images at the extra fine image-quality setting--fifteen images at the fine setting. These high-speed shooting capabilities are ideal for capturing momentary expressions, sports action, or fleeting action, while retaining high picture quality.
With the simultaneous RAW+JPEG dual-format capture mode for improved, post-shoot workflow, the Maxxum 7D can shoot either RAW or JPEG images or both combined. Simultaneous RAW+JPEG recording gives you much greater freedom in processing your images. By saving the image in both formats, you can quickly display the JPEG version as a reference while editing and processing the RAW data for final output as a beautiful gallery-quality print suitable for framing and permanent display.
The Maxxum 7D gives you a choice of 14-segment honeycomb-pattern metering, center-weighted average metering, and spot metering. Fourteen-segment honeycomb pattern metering is particularly versatile, and employs new algorithms to ensure beautiful results in extremely high-contrast or backlit situations. Additionally, exposure compensation can be set in 1/3- or 1/2-step increments, offering even finer control.

Konica Minolta Dimage Z3 4MP Digital Camera with Anti Shake 12x Optical Zoom

  • 4-megapixel sensor captures enough detail to create photo-quality 11-by-15-inch enlargements
  • Konica Minolta GT APO 12x optical zoom with CCD-shift anti-shake system; combines with 4x digital zoom for 48x total zoom
  • Fastest autofocus in its class (May 2004); captures movies with sound; PictBridge compatible
  • Store images on Secure Digital (SD) memory cards; 16 MB SD card included
  • Powered by 4 AA-size batteries (alkaline included, rechargeable NiMH recommended)

The Dimage Z3 incorporates an AF-dedicated ASIC to video AF system. Focusing takes a mere 0.15 seconds at wide angle and only 0.20 seconds at telephoto. And in Continuous AF, the Dimage Z3 includes Predictive Focus Control, which allows photographers to capture sharper images of moving subjects—like a child running at full speed. The Dimage Z3 also features a faster focusing lens drive that moves the focusing lens more than twice as fast as the previous Z-series model. Its Quick Speed Image Readout in AF function reads images from the CCD at a rate of 100 frames per second from when the shutter-release button is pressed partway until the image is brought into focus, giving contrast information in half the time of normal mode (50 frames per second). With Optimized AF Sequence, in Video AF the Dimage Z3 uses AF Sequence Control to simultaneously determine the focus drive direction and drive the lens to the position of maximum contrast through repeated focusing. This means that focusing operations start as soon as the shutter-release button is pressed partway. The Dimage Z3 also offers improved AF accuracy through several features. 5-point Area AF provides five focus areas that overlap horizontally and thus reduce AF failures that occur when subjects appear in between focus areas and cause a perspective conflict. A human subject sensor algorithm uses color information in an AF area to prioritize and focus on that area if it is more than 50% occupied by flesh tone. This reduces shots that erroneously focus on a background rather than on the person in the picture.

CCD-Shift Anti-Shake Function
The Konica Minolta Dimage Z3 is the first Z-series model to include Konica Minolta's Anti-Shake function. This gives photographers unprecedented control and accuracy when taking pictures in low light situations, as well as when fully-extending and hand-holding the camera's 12x optical zoom lens. The high-precision CCD-shift method employs the proprietary Smooth Impact Drive Mechanism (SIDM), in which angular velocity sensors detect the degree of shaking and move the CCD to compensate for and correct this. The SIDM enables compensation to minimize the effect of camera shake at 2-3 shutter speeds slower than on cameras without an Anti-Shake function (depending on conditions; equivalent to 2-3 exposure increments). The Dimage Z3 can correct shaking without increasing shutter speed and raising ISO sensitivity, factors which increase image noise. In addition, users won't see the deterioration in image quality usually associated with electronic anti-shake systems. The CCD-shift method doesn't require extra correction lenses like optical anti-shake systems, so the Dimage Z3's body is compact and lightweight. The Dimage Z3's anti-shake system is effective in correcting both the fine movement of pressing the shutter-release button and the larger and slower movements of the user's

It features a maximum 3264 x 2448 pixel resolution as well as the following lower resolution modes: 2560 x 1920, 2080 x 1560, 1600 x 1200, and 640 x 480. The f/2.8 -- 3.5, 7X optical zoom is an apochromatic (APO) lens employing anomalous dispersion (AD) glass to minimize chromatic aberration at all focal lengths and produce sharp, high-contrast images. With a focal range of 7.2 -- 50.8mm, it is equivalent to a 28 -- 200mm zoom lens in the 35mm format.
With 8.0 megapixels at your command, you'll be able to create more subtly refined digital images than ever. Richer portraits, as each hair, each fiber stands out more clearly. Landscapes, too, will appear more life-like through enhanced detail. And you'll notice that details are sharper than usual, a benefit of the larger size of the 2/3-type CCD. Every scene is different, requiring a different kind of processing. The DiMAGE A2 features an advanced LSI to tackle this complexity. White balance, contrast, & color reproduction are optimized with an exceptional degree of accuracy. Noise that tends to occur in the low-contrast areas of digital images is effectively suppressed, with no loss of image quality. "Colors should come out just the way you see them." Seems like a simple concept, but not all digital cameras are up to the task. The DiMAGE A2 succeeds because of its image processing technology, CxProcess II, which balances several key traits of your images. Colors stay vivid but not unnaturally so. Noise during slow-shutter imaging is significantly reduced . The Konica Minolta GT Lens ensures that light gets to the CCD sensor with utmost fidelity. It has 16 elements in 13 groups, including 2 AD glass elements to reduce flare, chromatic aberration, & image distortion. This lens system has been designed to maximize the quality of the 8-megapixel CCD. Anti-Shake helps you overcome camera shake during handheld shooting.

The system contains a 5.24-megapixel, 2/3-type interline primary color CCD with 5 million effective pixels for fine high-resolution images. The pixel resolution of the CCD will produce 13-by-17-inch, 150 dpi prints on an inkjet printer. The Dimage 7Hi's new "extra-fine" mode creates JPEG files with a compression ratio of 1/2.5. This mode not only reduces the compression ratio, but also enhances image quality with nearly lossless JPEG imaging. The extra-fine mode can also be used for commercial purposes. The image formed on the CCD is enhanced by Minolta's exclusive CxProcess image processing technology, which optimizes sharpness, color reproduction, tonal gradation, and noise to create clear and natural images. This wide dynamic range is provided by an improved electro-optical system with a 12-bit analog to digital conversion to ensure natural color and tonal reproduction. With a focal range of 7.2-50.8mm, the Dimage 7Hi's fast 7x zoom apochromatic (APO) lens is equivalent to a 28-200mm on a 35mm camera. In addition, the Minolta Dimage 7Hi's optical zoom lens accepts standard 49mm filters.
The Dimage 7Hi incorporates direct manual focus, which can be found in professional film cameras like the award-winning Minolta Maxxum 7. It allows the focus to be fine-tuned manually, after the AF system has focused and locked on the subject. The Dimage 7Hi has two displays for critical composition: grid and scale. The grid, usually found only in large-format view cameras, makes aligning the camera simple, via vertical or horizontal elements within the image. The grid confirms that the horizon or buildings are straight. The scale can be used in close-up photography to judge the relative proportions of the subject. The Dimage 7Hi is fitted with a 1.8-inch low-temperature high-contrast color LCD monitor.

A new built-in flash sync terminal allows the Dimage 7Hi to be connected to professional studio and location flash systems by plugging the flash's PC cord into the terminal. To capture images under varying natural and artificial lighting sources, white balance is controlled with nine settings: five presets, three customs, and one auto. You can record audio along with still images with the voice-memo feature, which allows a 16-bit audio track of up to 15 seconds to be attached to an image after it has been captured. In movie mode, the Dimage 7Hi produces digital videos in multiple creative formats, including standard QVGA (320 x 240) color movies and monochrome night movies up to 60 seconds with 16-bit audio. The night-movie mode can record movie clips under extreme low-light conditions, while the interval function can produce a series of still images taken at regular intervals, or it can combine the images into a time-lapsed movie at any image size.

Images are stored on CompactFlash memory cards and the memory slot is compatible with CompactFlash Type II cards as well as Microdrives. The included 16 MB card holds approximately eight images at 2,560 x 1,920 pixel resolution.
