Pentax 645N & 645

Undoubtedly the most sophisticated medium format ever built, the 645N was the first autofocus 645 camera with interchangeable lenses and full automation. With focus lock and predictive AF and built-in motor drive for up to 2 fps this camera can be used for fast action photography such as wildlife and sports. Built-in metering modes can be used with Program, aperture, and shutter priority, plus manual and leaf shutter modes. +/- 3 stops of exposure compensation can be adjusted in 1/3 increments. Three metering modes are available, a six-segment multizone, Centerweighted, and spot metering plus OTF-reading flash meter. Shutter speeds range from 30 to 1/1000 sec. and bulb. Film inserts are made for 120 , 220, and 70 mm films. Viewfinder displays shutter speeds and f-stops, exposure modes, focus indicator. ISO, frame number and battery check are shown on the top panel. Other features include multiple exposures, self timer, PC terminal, 1/60 sec. flash sync. and data imprinting of f-stops, shutter speeds, exposure compensation, lens focal length, and metering modes can be recorded out of the image area. Currently only five autofocus lenses are available for this model. A 45 mm, 75 mm, 300 mm, 400 mm, plus a 45-85mm zoom. All Pentax 645 manual focus lenses can also be used. Pentax 67 lenses can be mounted via an adapter in manual focus. A wide range of other accessories such as teleconverters, extension tubes, bellows are also available.
Pentax 645 is the older manual focus camera that offers much of the 645N features. All the auto exposure modes P/A/S/M are present. 15-1/1000 sec. shutter speed plus bulb, built-in winder with 1.5 fps advance with Centerweighted metering, TTL flash, multiple exposures and depth-of-field preview. Full viewfinder information shows shutter speeds and f-stop, exposure warnings, flash ready signals. Top LCD panel shows AE modes, ISO and frame number. Just as the 645N this Pentax also accepts 120, 220, and 70 mm film inserts. It has a top flash sync. of 1/60 sec. and can operate without a battery at 1/50 sec. 13 SMC Pentax lenses support this camera ranging from a 35mm fisheye to a 600 mm f-5.6 telephoto including 75 mm and 135 mm leaf shutter, a 45-85 mm and 80-160mm zoom lenses, plus a 120 mm macro, a 1.4X and 2X converters. An adapter allows most Pentax 67 lenses to be fitted to this camera. This is a well built camera offering everything you need for any type of photography.

Pentax 645N

Specifications:

  • The 645N incorporates the PENTAX-developed SAFOX IV phase-matching autofocus system to ensure accurate focusing not only on subjects with vertical orientation but also on those with horizontal orientation - even under such poor lighting conditions as EV-1.
  • The 645N allows the user to imprint valuable photographic data (such as exposure mode, shutter speed, aperture, lens focal length, etc.) at the bottom of the film outside of the image area.
  • Using the new "Dual-Six-Segment" metering system, the Pentax 465N can measure the subject's lighting conditions with efficiency and accuracy. "Spot Metering" and conventional "Center-Weighted Metering" are also options on the new 645N.
  • Versatility and maximum control with four separate exposure modes:
    -Programmed AE
    -Aperture-Priority AE
    -Shutter Priority AE
    -Metered Manual
  • Built in motor drive that advances the film at two frames per second. The motor drive also automatically advances and rewinds the film as well as allows more frames per roll due to its high precision film transport mechanism.
  • The 645N has perfected the renowned optical system - originally developed for and made famous by the PENTAX 645 - by adding a high-performance viewfinder loupe. As a result, the camera assures comfortable, fatigue-free eye-level shooting over long periods in the field.
  • The 645N offers three focus modes to choose from: "AF Single" activates the shutter only when the subject comes into focus; "AF Servo" lets the user release the shutter at any time; and "Manual Focus" lets the user adjust the focus manually using the focus ring on the lens.
  • In the AF Servo mode, the 645N"s AF system detects the subject's movement (toward or away from the camera) and "predicts" the optimum focusing point at shutter release for pinpoint focus on the subject on the move.
  • Auto bracketing feature easily brackets the subject with three different exposure levels.
  • Memory lock button allows easy allows the user to lock in the subject's lighting conditions and recompose the shot.
  • Two large dials located on both sides of the prism housing facilitate swift mistake-free operation, while other levers and switches are ergonomically positioned for maximum ease of operation.
  • Located at the camera's right shoulder, the LCD data panel provides the photographer with useful operational data at a glance in easy-to-understand letters, digits and symbols.
  • An LCD data panel located at the bottom of the viewfinder indicates a full range of photographic data.
  • All existing SMC PENTAX-A 645 lenses can be used with the new 645N without any modifications (except for autofocus operation). A wide variety of optional accessories are also available to satisfy the photographer's needs for special applications.
  • The body is made of rigid aluminum and protected with a glass-fiber-reinforced polycarbonate coating approximately 1.7 times thicker than a normal coating.
  • Requires Film Holders:
    120 Film Holder
    220 Film Holder

Pentax 645

Specifications:

  • With seven exposure-control modes the photographer is in control, whether the situation demands the instant response of programmed automation, the full creative freedom of metered manual. The different modes are:
    • A program mode, with a sophisticated exposure program controlling both aperture and shutter speed settings, allowing the user to shoot spontaneously and in challenging conditions.
    • Aperture-Priority AE 1, set the lens on "A" (automatic) and choose the desired aperture with the selecting buttons.
    • Aperture-Priority AE 2, set the aperture manually by turning the aperture ring on the lens. In either case, the correct shutter speed is set automatically.
    • Shutter-Priority AE Mode that allows you to select the shutter speed from 1/1000th sec to 15 seconds and the camera automatically selects the correct aperture as the shutter is activated.
    • Metered-Manual Mode allowing total creative control.
    • TTL Auto Flash Mode, a sensor in the camera body measures flash output and ambient light as it travels through the lens to the film plane. The flash is automatically terminated when the proper amount of light has reached the film.
    • Programmed Auto Flash lets you do with flash what the Programmed AE Mode does with available light: shoot on the spur of the moment with accuracy, speed and confidence.
  • The PENTAX 645 is equipped with a quiet belt-drive system that is both reliable and durable. "Teeth" on the belt help prevent slippage during high-speed winding.
  • The PENTAX 465 is compact in size due in part to the compact -but powerful- motor it uses to advance the film, cock the shutter, and load the mirror mechanism.
  • A total of five interchangeable focusing screens are available for the 645. Focusing screens are easily interchanged through the body mount.
  • Three lenses are available in the wide-angle range: a 35mm, a 45mm and a 55mm (roughly equivalent to the 20mm, 28mm, and 35mm lengths in the 35mm format). In the standard 75mm focal length (equivalent to a 45mm in the 35mm format), we offer two lenses: 75mm f/2.8, and 75mm leaf shutter f/2.8. Telephoto lenses include a 135mm LS, 150mm and 200mm, 80-160mm zoom lens, and a 300mm ED (IF) and 600mm ED (IF). For macro and close-up photography, a 120mm Macro lens offers magnifications up to life size. New to the 645 lens line-up is the 45-85mm zoom lens.
  • A variety of dedicated TTL flash units are available for use with the PENTAX 645, from the most compact to the most powerful professional units.
  • Other features include a depth of field preview, emergency film wind, diopter adjusting ring, multiple exposure ring and shutter cocked indicator, continual and single advance motor-drive, and lens information
